María Nuria De Francisco
Nuria De Francisco

Nuria was born in Santander (Cantabria), Spain, and moved in her early childhood first to Madrid and then to Laredo. She attended "Saint Vincent of Paul" Elementary and "Bernardino de Escalante" High School in Laredo, where she grew up. Starting when she was six-year old, she studied piano at the Conservatory of Music "Jesús de Monasterio" in Santander under professor Isabel Charlón. She got a Pharmacy degree from the University of Salamanca, where she stayed at the "Gran Vía" university residence.

Nuria and Rufo, her husband, live in San José, California, in the heart of Silicon Valley.

Between 1995 and 2009 Nuria worked in the Organic Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Development departments at Affymax, a Palo Alto biotech company. There, she helped develop a rich pipeline of synthetic peptide-based drugs against clinically validated targets for the treatment of kidney diseases and cancer. Nuria currently works at AbbVie in the discovery and development of biopharmaceuticals and small molecule drugs.

Nuria is an avid reader, is interested in political science, and enjoys learning about new technologies.

Rufo Javier De Francisco
Rufo De Francisco

Rufo was born in Laredo (Cantabria), Spain where he attended "José Antonio" Elementary School and "Bernardino de Escalante" High School. He got a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from the University of Salamanca, one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions in Europe. While in Salamanca he attended the "Hernán Cortés" college. The year after his graduation he came to the United States to further his education. After a short stay in Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, he got a Fulbright scholarship and attended the University of Arizona in Tucson, where he got a Master of Science degree in Computer Science.

Upon his graduation, Rufo joined Intel Corporation, the world's largest microprocessor maker, world leader in silicon innovation, and a leading developer of technologies, products and initiatives that advance how people work and live. Rufo is the Director of Intel Software Qualiy.

Among Rufo's personal interests are film photography, science and technology (astronomy, computation, software development & quality, mobile devices), history and Spanish literature. Rufo lives with his wife, Nuria, in San José, California, the capital of Silicon Valley. Rufo and Nuria enjoy weekend travel gateaways in Northern California.

In the logo you can also find stylized representations of the La Salvé beach and the Old Town in Laredo.

We have not forgotten to include the harbor wall of Laredo. The green, white and blue colors are those of Laredo's flag; the area in yellow represents the sand on the beach.
